still not On to Rock

am no critic of movies but its my small attempt to understand the forces that govern the society in which i live. am a gr8 hindi movie buff and a farhan akhtar fan too. however his first movie as an actor is a bit disappointing atleast from a women's perspective...
The female characters do not have any "character" to speak about. they are just incidental to the man's life. her dreams, her aspirations are subjugated to that of the man. prachi desai better known as bani- the quintessential bahu of the Valya household (Kasamh Se) is just a Skirt- blouse version of the Sari role she plays in the serial. She lives, dreams, even sleeps as per her husband's wishes. her voice somewhere gets submerged in the noise of the drums & the guitars.
The second 'lead' woman, and i use the term with some doubt , is Joe's (Rampal) wife Debby. She gives up her dream of becoming a designer and ends up in a fish business where 'the smell refused to go from her hand' to support her family. And they are the very hands which Joe leaves in the Cab to be one with his friends, to be one with his dream. her only purpose is to be the 'muse' for whom poetry can be written. Welcome to the gen y version of Sydney's "untouchable beloved"....
the poetic justice of achievment of dreams is only possible through the man. does the 're-birth' of Rob symbolize a continuation of the same tradition?
'behind every successful man there's a woman' - so said my grandfather, so said my father- but i refuse to be behind the man anymore, i want to be with him. until then "magic" for me does not exist; am ready to Rock too, but when will the world permit it?

heyy congrats for ths amazinn blogg..!!well even was thnkin of havin 1..seems u stole my idea!hehehe...butofcourse not the theme!....
no offense but just wat i thnk about d views u have expressd...here i go:
u talk abot d lady character in rock on,that "She lives, dreams, even sleeps as per her husband's wishes" n also abot debby that "She gives up her dream of becoming a designer and ends up in a fish business where 'the smell refused to go from her hand' to support her family"..n if m nt wrong u trying 2 depict women's society through the examples!..hmm..well applaudes..they are d good examples.
but my dear, i thnk u misssed or might have interpretd few thngs slight dfrrntly..wat u missed here is LOVE..all the thngs tat happnd there was coz of love..love as v all know comes in variuos forms..for d ladies of the movie,it was their guys..n for guys it was their music..
"n d space is less..ill contnue nxt page"

hii..:) here i go again!
...so...ladies' words n dreams never got lost in noise of drums n guitar..it never did..infct..there was no drums n guitar, wen d ladies were as v saw, "unhappy"!rather..wen there were drums n guitar..they wer happy!
understnd d fact that in love...wen 1 sex is not happy, the other sex,do cry as well!
debby n bani loved ther guys, who ac2aly were not happy, coz their lov was not wid them!n in tat situaton if,debby n bani would have left ther guys, the essense or d meanin of love and trust in love would have disappeard!
well u can say,joe did leave in d end!yes he did!he did leave, for his love!coz he had confidence in his love,he knew tat though he has grown old,he will b acceptd!n hence can fulfill debby's dreams as well!he left not coz he was irrriated wid debby's chit-chit,he left coz he had trust in his love!
he never complaind as debby alws did,he acceptd all harsh words of debby.he kept silent coz he knew wat debby has sacrficed for him,he respectd her sacrifice and love!

i know wat i have just started...a grand mega discussion on male n feamle n may b on love!
but now as it has startd..let it flow!
herez 1 more thng i wanna add abot wat uve written in ur blog:
"behind every successful man there's a woman' - so said my grandfather, so said my father- but i refuse to be behind the man anymore, i want to be with him"
-i thnk here also u have taken it all wrong.women are and they have alws been WITH men.remeber sita?or remeber kokila ben?
wen we say "behind", we realy dnt literaly mean "behind"..we mean..support.
women are mothers, sisters, wives.they play a highly supportive role in a man's life.wen a mother is standing behind her baby, she is ther so tat c can hold him wen he falls. a sister stands ther for her brother give him courage. and a wife stands ther 2 support him weneva he fails.women are men's backbone,n v both know wat is the importance of backbone in humanbody.n if ther is no backbone ther wnt b any body!
stri bina toh shiv b shav hai!
men have given women d most imp place in his life.she is not behind.she is wth him.coz no matter wat,he knows,he can not succeed wdot her.coz he knows wen c is ther,he neednt fear of falling, failing and frightng!he knows he wll b held.men trust ther women.c holds a postn in his life..n wen i say i m behind u..i mean,"GO-ROCK ON-i m ther 2 look after u!"
n i thnk,irrespective of sex,this line means a lot 2 every1 of us!
despite of all,WE are not perfct, mistakes do happen,we cant clap just by flappering 1 of our hands!
heyy thes are just my ideas,n no offens..ur blog rocks n so ur views..but trust me,try change d angle frm where u see all thse stuffs,u would explore a lots of good stuffs 2..as i did!.u aint gonna lose anythng if u try as ull alws have ur views wid u, n no 1 can change it(dnt cahnge ur views, change d angle)

Point taken! But then movies are not isolated from the rules that govern our society, and yes, the woman, is incidental to a man's life...
Is there a solution in sight? Now thats a difficult question to answer.

It s not an argument about the marginal and the mainstream, rather the point in case is, if the marginal has remained at the periphery and the mainstream has held its ground, then, there is also question of inertia that comes into play. They continue to remain in their current state, until and unless acted upon by an 'external' force.

Another, scenario would be where the centripetal force and the centrifugal force are equal in magnitude, they cancel out each other.

The third scenario- Oneoverpowers the other, then the marginal becomes the maindtream, and mainstream the marginal...

All the three scenarios foretell a bleak future and yes it would be require some Magik(with a 'K'), if things are to be different

Haven't seen "Rock On" yet, but I can imagine the story as it's so common for the women, not only in India, but everywhere. They sacrifice so much, but it's rarely appreciated and they get lost somewhere in oblivion.

Good work... Keep going :-)

pretty impressive! Finally you have 'a space of your own' d silent noises wouldn't be so silent any more...
Honestly, Farhan was disappointing and d only sad argument one can offer in his favour is that the d movie holds a mirror to society.I wish women had a better presence in d movie than being the 'angel in the house'.The movie like the stage belonged to men while d women clapped their hands and tapped their feet to the tunes written, composed and sung by men.
